The great Jim Rohn, once said "There are two ways to face the future. One way is with apprehension; the other is with anticipation." So, as the New Year and new decade approaches how do you plan to face it, much less enter it?

For many of us, a number of hard lessons were learnt during 2009. Lessons such as the realisation that there is no longer any such thing as job security; that we have to stop living outside of our means, and that the reported green shoots in the economic market does not necessarily mean the worst is over. With new (UK) tax increases, continuous job losses and VAT returned back to what it was, 2010 could prove to be just as challenging if not more so than 2009! Many will not want to hear or accept this reality, but it is going to take more time before the worst is over. So what do we do in the meantime other than carrying on as normal and stumble along the easy path of complacency?

It has been said that if you want something different in your life then you have to do something different! And oftentimes, challenges like the one many of us are currently facing can actually lead not only to change, but successful change: if one simply allows themselves to lean into it with their eyes wide open!

Leaning into it means you make yourself open to opportunities with the willingness to pursue it blindly....no contract, no promise of success or expectation whatsoever. It means putting yourself in a situation where you have nothing to lose but everything to gain! It requires blind faith, self-belief and trust that the universe will reward your courage by providing you with all you require in order to make your decision work out for you. It means you just start, rather than sitting on the sidelines ohhing and arring in contemplation. Feel the fear and do it anyway!

When you just lean into it, you are saying yes to questions such as “have you ever considered....?” or “Could I convince you to...?” or “Would you be willing to take a look at....?” And by doing so you begin to create momentum, cause and effect, - ‘the unseen energy force that brings more opportunity, more resources, and more people into your life at seemingly just the right time for you to benefit the most from them’. Many would refer to this as the Law of Attraction.

To ‘lean into it’ you simply have to start...be it by doing something, exploring something, asking about something! Then continue to take the next steps forward in your journey; be it to success, to new levels of self-awareness or just to someplace better than where you currently are. Life is about movement, so by consciously moving with it you are essentially embracing it, loving it, enjoying it.
When you just lean into it, you don’t even have to have a clear dream. Because sometimes when you have a specific dream you can get caught up in the details of that dream and close yourself off to the various possibilities that your dream can manifest itself. What you need is a desire to try something new, a desire to start or live out a life-long passion, or simply a desire for change.

Life is about choices and being fearless, and like time, it waits for no man! It keeps going, which is what we must do, especially when we are feeling most challenged. So if you choose to ‘just lean into it’ – that is the opportunity and potential of life, then continue to keep doing it because eventually the path you require to get you from A to B will appear.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful, productive, and positive New Year, as well as decade!
